CANCELLING SCHOOL IN INCLEMENT WEATHER
Classes at Mormon Trail Community School District will be cancelled or delayed when weather conditions due to fog, rain, snow or other natural elements make it unsafe for students and staff to travel. Because weather conditions may vary around the school district and may change quickly, the best judgment possible will be used with the information available.
The final judgment as to when to cancel school due to inclement weather will be made by the superintendent.
When weather conditions deteriorate during the day after school has begun, and school must be dismissed early to provide for the safety of student and staff, students will be returned to their regular drop-off sites unless weather conditions prevent it. In that case, students will be kept at or returned to school until they are picked up by the parents. This will standard practice when busing are running their regular routes or utilizing the Mormon Trail CSD Hard Surfaces Only Plan.
If school is delayed for any reason, breakfast will not be served. If school is delayed for inclement weather, all morning activities and practices will be cancelled.
If school is dismissed early due to inclement weather, all after school activities and practices will be cancelled.
In rare circumstances in which conditions drastically change creating a situation where student transportation becomes safe, the superintendent will have the final judgement to waiver from this policy. The superintendent will consult with the principal, AD, and Board President to come to a unanimous decision that conditions have improved sufficiently to provide for the safe transportation of students. (Student safety will be the only factor used in this determination.)
